Jenny Franks's Story
I have had too many family members affected by multiple forms of this disease, so I am always looking for ways to contribute to efforts to fight and maybe someday cure cancer. This particular event is special to me because it will be my first opportunity to participate in a fundraiser sponsored by my new employer, Tuality. The C.A.T Walk looks like a great way to combine a fundraising effort for cancer treatment and awareness with an opportunity to represent Tuality in the Hillsboro community.
A bit about the event...
"Now in its 13th year of existence, this 5K run walk event is a testament to the greater Hillsboro community’s resolve to help fight all forms of cancer. This annual family friendly event is a prelude to the largest 4th of July parade in Oregon (the famous Hillsboro Rotary Parade). Participants will be treated to three events—a Kids’ Dash, competitive 5k run, 5k walk—and a health fair.
Proceeds from the event help us continue to provide cancer dietary and cancer-related classes, free PSA prostate screenings and temporary housing and transportation services. In addition, funds are directed to the Tuality/OHSU Cancer Center. The center provides patients and their families’ convenient access to state-of-the-art radiation oncology treatment. This radiation oncology facility rounds out the surgery and chemotherapy treatment services for cancer and augments other prevention, screening and diagnostic services. Since inception in 2001, this Hillsboro event has raised over $612,000. Last year alone, we gathered over $81,000 in sponsorships, registrations and personal fundraising and had 1,1370 walkers and runners. With your help, we hope to exceed these numbers at this year’s event. For many families, this event has become a long-standing July 4 tradition."
Please join me in the fundraising effort for this organization. Thanks!
